Community Meadow Restoration Day: Autumn
October meet up to continue with the restoration of the 50 acres that the Nature Recovery Network have leased adjacent to the river Thames. This is land where we can all help restore the nature around us.
Come to Long Mead for a hands on, positive restorative day together.
If the soil has re-hydrated sufficiently we will be planting out the hand propagated rare wildflower plants, which our wednesday plant propagation group has been growing and nurturing through the year, in Swinford meadows across the river. These are meadows that we have leased from Oxford Preservation Trust to restore for nature as part of our Thames Valley Wildflower Meadow Restoration Project, which is been selected as one of Oxfordshire's Strategic Projects in its Local Nature Recovery Strategy.
If the soil is still hard and dry we will continue our restoration activities on Long Mead - eg creating our compost from molehills and willow woodchip, seed shucking, sowing next year's tree and wildflower seeds, creating our new tree nursery beds, starting the work of turning the Neyotts Willow Coppice into Wet Woodland, which is a habitat almost as rare as our floodplain meadows.
Please bring your own drinks. There will likely be cake! We would be grateful if you could register so that we can plan for correct numbers of people.
We'll probably meet Long Mead at 2.00pm. We will let you know nearer the time in case we meet at Swinford Meadows. It is always helpful if you can arrive at the beginning so that we can brief everyone together.
