We'll meet at Swinford Meadows at 1.30pm - please read access instructions under LOCATION to the right.\r\nWe're very lucky to again have one of Oxfordshire's leading botanists, Debbie Lewis, Head of Ecology at Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust (BBOWT), join our network to train or refresh volunteers in botanical surveying.\r\nAttending a survey group is an excellent way of honing your plant identification skills. So, if you already have some plant ID skills, and/or are keen to learn, please join the survey team.\r\nHelp us record some of the rarer plants around Eynsham that are likely to be threatened by development in the near future.\r\nBased on our NRN principles of building up, over time, a cadre of local people to know and protect the land around us, our experts will help us to identify and record the plants that we don&rsquo\;t know yet. \r\nThis is the first of three botanical workshops, in and around Eynsham.\r\nPlease wear appropriate clothes and footwear for the field session. You may wish to bring a notebook and pencil.\r\n\r\nThose of you who are not already members of NRN, we'd love you to join (&pound\;10 per year) in order to enjoy this workshop and many others for free.\r\nIf you'd rather not join just yet, we ask you to pay &pound\;15 for this workshop. This is partly because, although we all give our services for free, NRN has significant costs to do what it is doing for our local nature. These workshops are usually oversubscribed and we have found that occasionally people sign up and then don't turn up, depriving someone else of the opportunity.\r\nPlease click here and give our local wildlife a present by becoming an NRN member! Not only will you be supporting compost/tool purchase etc. but you will get free access to all our survey workshops and discounted or no rates for workshops that we charge for.\r\nWe look forward to sharing some time with you in the Great Outdoors! \r\nPlease tell the leader on the day if you would prefer not be photographed.--- This iCal file does *NOT* confirm registration.Event details subject to change. ---\r\n\r\n--- By Tendenci - The Open Source AMS for Associations ---\r\n

During this hands-on workshop, you&rsquo\;ll discover how to identify the tell-tale signs of its presence, from neatly chewed vegetation and feeding remains to footprints and its characteristic droppings.\r\nBring a packed lunch and wear suitable clothing (long-sleeved clothing, sturdy boots or wellies, and bring along some gardening gloves and maybe even a walking/ranging pole).\r\nWe at the NRN are moving into our fourth year of water vole surveys, and any data collected from these surveys are being shared with the local biological records centre (TVERC) as well as with BBOWT.\r\nWe invite you as volunteers to come and join us in the survey, and you will be paired up with an experienced lead water vole surveyor. Surveys are based on looking for signs of water voles in the context of droppings, footprints, feeding remains, latrines, paths and burrows. If you are very quiet, you may in fact see a water vole with your own eyes. This has been a really fun and interesting day previously. Gaining experience in these surveys means that you can get involved in years to come.\r\n2023 was our first year where we undertook detailed surveys along different sections of the River Thames water network in and around Long Mead. We identified water vole populations living along the Wharf Stream, River Thames, Limb Brook and Eynsham Mead Ditch. We hope to continue surveying these sections on an annual basis to monitor the continued status of these local water vole populations. \r\nSo come along, enjoy a day with Ratty and gain some experience and enjoy the outdoors and beauty of Eynsham.\r\nPlease make sure that you sign up on the website as we really need to keep track of numbers. \r\n \r\nPlease tell the leader on the day if you would prefer not be photographed.--- This iCal file does *NOT* confirm registration.Event details subject to change. ---\r\n\r\n--- By Tendenci - The Open Source AMS for Associations ---\r\n

Please bring binoculars if you have them, and wear suitable footwear (it is often a little wet).\r\nThese walks take place throughout the seasons with NRN's local birding experts. They are at a relaxed pace with regular stops, so are suitable for all ages and abilities. The main aim is to help anyone who is interested in getting a bit more familiar with basic bird recognition, songs and calls and the best places to spot them.\r\nThose of you who are not already members of NRN, we'd love you to join (&pound\;10 per year) in order to enjoy this workshop and many others for free. \r\nThis is the third and final of three botanical workshops, in and around Eynsham.\r\nPlease wear appropriate clothes and footwear for the field session. \r\n \r\nPlease tell the leader on the day if you would prefer not be photographed.--- This iCal file does *NOT* confirm registration.Event details subject to change. ---\r\n\r\n--- By Tendenci - The Open Source AMS for Associations ---\r\n

This walk will be the third of 2026 in an informal series of birding outings for NRN birding beginners and experienced birders alike. The walks start at 9.00am outside at The Talbot and will finish by 11.00am. This is a new route for 2026. Anyone who can only do an hour can finish at the half-way stop. If you'd rather not join just yet, we ask you to pay &pound\;5 for this Bird Walk. We encourage you to book, but we welcome 'walk-ins' on the day. \r\nWe look forward to sharing some time with you in the wonderful environs of Eynsham. It is surprising what can be seen around and close to our village.\r\n--- This iCal file does *NOT* confirm registration.Event details subject to change. ---\r\n\r\n--- By Tendenci - The Open Source AMS for Associations ---\r\n

This time we will be in the ancient Swinford Meadows across the river from Long Mead.\r\n \r\nThis NRN project began in 2020 in the Witney Road playground during Covid, since then NRN members have planted nearly three kilometres of hedgerow in eight schools and on community land in villages in and around Eynsham. The idea, inspired by Freeland farmer Robert Crocker, is to connect up our villages, rivers and meadows by hedgerow!\r\n\r\nThe whips that we all planted last year now flourishing, and so we are planning to plant even more this year, on the 60 acres of land that we have leased for us all to restore adjacent to the River Thames. See the map on the right of this page, under 'Location'\r\nSwinford Meadows have been leased to us by the Oxford Preservation Trustus for our community to restore as a mosaic of habitats - meadows, hedgerows, wetland and woodlands. We are delighted to be starting a new collaboration with them, working together to restore this rare habitat on our doorstep, for wildlife and people. \r\nIt is always helpful if you can arrive at the beginning so that we can brief everyone together. But if you can&rsquo\;t make it then, we&rsquo\;d love to see you anyway. We will leave from Long Mead at 10.00, follow the white dots to the lock (see map below) and then up the towpath on the Swinford side to the meadow. The QR codes take you to Google Maps with directions. There will be cake but please bring a thermos and a picnic lunch, spades, secateurs and gloves if you have them. We can provide them if you don't. And wellies - it is likely to be wet. \r\n\r\n\r\nHuge thanks to our formidable Wednesday Team without whose preparation we wouldn't be here. \r\nThanks also to all our community organisations for coming together to make 'our whole greater than the sum of our parts' and to our partners in the wider landscape - the Oxford Conservation Volunteers, as well as to the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England and Wild Oxfordshire for funding the all-important the hedging plants.\r\n \r\n--- This iCal file does *NOT* confirm registration.Event details subject to change. ---\r\n\r\n--- By Tendenci - The Open Source AMS for Associations ---\r\n
