Training

As part of our mission to record and monitor our local flora and fauna, we want to establish a baseline for butterfly species distribution across local meadows.

We are aiming to carry out weekly butterfly surveys in 2026, running from April to September.

We will be surveying along 3 transects at Long Mead Local Wildlife Site.

Survey dates and times will fluctuate weekly as surveying is weather dependant - join our whatsApp group to keep informed of each week's plan.

We particularly encourage members who have atttended our previous butterfly workshops to attend and over time build up their knowledge and skills, but beginners are also welcome and some on the job training will be provided!

Please wear appropriate clothes and footwear for field walking. You may wish to bring a notebook and pencil. However basic paperwork will be provided.

Butterfly Transect walkers often use binoculars to help identify the smaller species. Do bring them along if you wish.
