Description

Walk with local bird experts Allen Stevens and Sally Taylor and learn to identify our birds and their songs

Join Nature Recovery Network’s Basic Bird identification walk with experienced local birders, Allen Stevens and Sally Taylor. This walk will be the third of 2026 in an informal series of birding outings for NRN birding beginners and experienced birders alike. The walks  start at 9.00am outside at The Talbot and will finish by 11.00am. This is a new route for 2026. Anyone who can only do an hour can finish at the half-way stop. Please bring binoculars if you have them, and wear suitable footwear (it is often a little wet).

These walks take place throughout the seasons with NRN's local birding experts. They are at a relaxed pace with regular stops, so are suitable for all ages and abilities. The main aim is to help anyone who is interested in getting a bit more familiar with basic bird recognition, songs and calls and the best places to spot them.

Those of you who are not already members of NRN, we'd love you to join (£10 per year) in order to enjoy this workshop and many others for free. If you'd rather not join just yet, we ask you to pay £5 for this Bird Walk. We encourage you to book, but we welcome 'walk-ins' on the day.

We look forward to sharing some time with you in the wonderful environs of Eynsham. It is surprising what can be seen around and close to our village.

Allen and Sally lead Eynsham's Bird Survey Group. Allen has been a keen birder for as long as he can remember. He was fortunate to be able to continue this interest as a postgraduate student, completing a DPhil on the ‘Food Storing behaviour of Marsh Tits’, with fieldwork in Wytham Woods. As well as helping with the NRN bird surveys around Eynsham he also is a volunteer with the BTO, participating in the annual national breeding bird survey.

Sally is born and brought up in Eynsham and there is nothing she doesn't know about the habits and whereabouts of Eynsham's birds.
