Description

Calling all keen lepidopterists!

Whether you know them as schmetterlings, papillons or butterflies, all are welcome to participate as Peter Philp of the Upper Thames Branch of Butterfly Conservation will join our network to train or refresh volunteers in the standard method for recording butterflies on a transect.

We will spend about half the time going over the theory and paperwork, and then we will go into the field to practice (though don't worry, we're not expecting you to find butterflies in March!)

Please wear appropriate clothes and footwear for the field session. You may wish to bring a notebook and pencil. However some basic paperwork will be provided.

Butterfly Transect walkers often use binoculars to help identify the smaller species. Do bring them along if you wish.

If we have time at the end, tips will be shared on identifying our common butterflies in the field.

We will initially meet at Long Mead barn before moving to Neyotts across the road (on the Wharf Stream - the footpath to the lock). Please travel by foot, bus or bike if you can. The S1 Bus stops at the Talbot Inn, just outside our gate. We are between the Swinford Toll Bridge and the Talbot Inn (opposite the pub) recogniseable by the row of rusty birds on the gate and a thatch barn in the orchard.

If you need to travel by car please use the Eynsham Sports Pavilion car park (1 Oxford Rd, Eynsham, Witney OX29 4HG).

If you don't get there at 10.00, we will be in the Neyotts Meadow across the road.
