The presence of trees in urban areas evokes a multiplicity of responses, ranging from deep concern and annoyance to feelings of joy and contentment. There are now many studies that provide compelling scientific evidence that urban trees provide a large number of 'ecosystem services' for our communities.
Here we review some of the persuasive evidence as to why we need urban trees.
