Hywel Edwards 1955 - 2026
It is with great sorrow that we learned of the death of NRN member Hywel Edwards on the 15th January 2026. Hywel was a core member of several community organisations, including GreenTEA, the Peace Oak Association and the Nature Recovery Network (NRN).
Hywel was a vital contributor to the NRN from its inception and, together with his wife Sarah, played a key role in bringing Eynsham’s community groups together to work for nature recovery.
Quiet and unassuming, he nevertheless led by example through action - simply getting on with whatever needed doing, with pragmatism and skill. He was a regular and reliable presence at local events, whether juicing apples at the Peace Oak, surveying for swifts, scything community green spaces with NRN, or serving tea and coffee at Repair Cafe, he would always enliven affairs with his wry sense of humour, energy and enthusiasm.
Alongside his hands-on work, Hywel offered vital organisational support. He served for some years as Finance & Governance Officer at Oxford Preservation Trust and applied this experience to his voluntary roles as treasurer and trustee for GreenTEA and Peace Oak.
He was instrumental in NRN and Long Mead Foundation being awarded the Oxford Preservation Trust’s Green Award in 2022.
Our love and sympathy go to Sarah and to Hywel’s sons, Ewan and Ivor. He will be deeply missed by NRN, by the community groups he supported, and by all those who knew him.
