Join our butterfly survey training!

Calling all keen lepidopterists!

Whether you know them as schmetterlings, papillons or butterflies, all are welcome to participate as Peter Philp of the Upper Thames Branch of Butterfly Conservation will join our network to train or refresh volunteers in the standard method for recording butterflies on a transect.

We will spend about half the time going over the theory and paperwork, and then we will go into the field to practice (though don't worry, we're not expecting you to find butterflies in March!)

Please wear appropriate clothes and footwear for the field session. You may wish to bring a notebook and pencil. However some basic paperwork will be provided.

Butterfly Transect walkers often use binoculars to help identify the smaller species. Do bring them along if you wish.

If we have time at the end, tips will be shared on identifying our common butterflies in the field.
